Follow the first steps of one of the world’s most famous artists
The former home of the famous impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh is only 3 km from the hotel, a 30-minute walk.
Discover step by step the places where the self-taught artist was born. The Van Gogh House is an essential step in the painter’s journey through Europe.
Van Gogh was inspired by the landscapes around him and the living conditions of the people, which he transcribed in his paintings.
Van Gogh was a Protestant preacher when he moved to Cuesmes, a small town near Mons, between 1879 and 1880.
He lives in the simplest of conditions, alongside the miners whom he accompanies in their daily lives and work and with whom he shares his wealth.
Having become too radical in the eyes of the religious authorities, his ministry was withdrawn. It was decided that Van Gogh would turn to a career in art.
The tour begins with a walk through the garden and then reaches the pavilion, which houses reproductions of his works, literary elements that left their mark on the painter and period furniture.
At the end of the visit, an audio device recalls the artist’s time in the Borinage (Walloon region in the south-west of the city of Mons).
Enjoy your visit…
