Discover the only museum in the world dedicated to Pierre Bonnard
Le Cannet is to Pierre Bonnard what Nice was to Matisse. The Bonnard Museum, open since 25 June 2011, is located 4 km from the hotel. It is the only museum in the world that traces the work of Pierre Bonnard. It has been awarded the “Musée de France” label and in addition to the works of Pierre Bonnard, one or two temporary exhibitions are presented each year. The fact that it is a “Musée de France” has enabled the Bonnard Museum to host a lithograph on Toulouse-Lautrec and thus gain in visibility.
Most of the exhibition is devoted to the period between 1922 and 1947, which corresponds to Pierre Bonnard’s stay in Le Cannet.
In order to retrace the life of Pierre Bonnard, the town of Cannes has set out to find his youthful works, so as not to be limited to the period when he was regularly in Le Cannet, and in order to retrace his work in the best possible way.
Pierre Bonnard was a painter, decorator, illustrator, engraver, lithographer, and sculptor. He thus leaves behind a huge body of work, essentially pictorial with impressionist influence.
The museum has also signed a partnership with the Orsay Museum, which aims to build a scientific project and to obtain loans from the museum more easily. The Bonnard Museum owes its cultural and artistic enrichment to its partnership with the Musée d’Orsay, but also to the Meyer Foundation, which supports it through a vast network of patrons.
